How to Press HTV
WITH A HOME IRON OR HEAT PRESS
PREP: Transfer will have 3 pieces. First is the carrier plastic, 2nd is the transfer, and 3rd is the backing. If applying with iron, don’t use an ironing board. Use flat heat resistant surface. You can use a pillowcase as a barrier between the surface and garment.
INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat your iron/heat press. Use 300˚ for heat press or the polyester/wool setting for a home iron. Preheat the garment for 10 seconds either in heat press or ironing like normal. Remove paper backing from transfer (if it has one). Position the transfer on the garment. If the transfer has multiple pieces or colors, do one piece or section at a time. Cover completely with cover sheet (you can use a teflon sheet, kraft paper, or parchment paper) and follow the steps for your specific equipment next.
IRON: Press down with medium pressure on the first section of the transfer for 10-15 seconds. Lift up iron and move to next area, and continue steps until you have covered all areas, overlapping partially with each section. While it is still warm, remove cover sheet and peel off the plastic carrier sheet, exposing the transfer. If plastic doesn’t come off easily, let garment cool before trying again. If this doesn’t work, stop and repeat the first steps again, trying to use more pressure or increase the temperature slightly. Once plastic sheet is removed, put cover sheet back on the transfer and iron area normally for 10 seconds. Inspect the transfer to make sure there is no corners or parts that haven’t fully stuck to the garment. Complete last step until the transfer has completely adhered.
HEAT PRESS: Press with heat press for 10-15 seconds. Remove cover sheet and peel the carrier plastic while warm. If it doesn’t come up, let it cool down and then try again. Once plastic is removed, replace cover sheet and press again for 10-15 sec. Remove cover sheet. Inspect the transfer to make sure there is no corners or parts that haven’t fully stuck to the garment. Complete last step until the transfer has completely adhered.
